My Blog

Boba's Birthday Bash

Like the crazy dog mom I am, I wanted to throw boba a birthday party in the park and we did! I designed an invite and this past weekend we had a party in Golden Gate Park next to the beautiful Conservatory of Flowers.

For the party, I made the tea the day before, bottled them up and used a gold paint marker to label them. I bought black tapioca pearls from Nuts.com and cooked them in the morning of according to this blog and they came out delicious. I also made some simple syrup for people to be able to sweeten their boba milk tea their way. I got some Strauss whole milk, the best milk, and Califia almond milk as well as some ice. I had some boba cups and straws from my party last time, which was convenient. I just added some cups from Target and some party supplies from the Oh Happy Day Party Shop. They have such a great selection of party supplies and since they were in San Francisco, I would get them next day.

I had ambitions to make a cool balloon setup with some black sphere balloons, a rainbow balloon, a heart balloon, an emoji balloon, and Boba spelled in large gold foil balloons, but I lost some balloons on our way to the park and I popped a B, so that failed. It was too windy anyways to have my balloon setup meet the vision I had in mind.

I also ordered a peanut butter cake, which actually comes with beef liver and bacon, from Paw Patch Pastries for Boba and her friends and I had a trés leche cake from Tartine for the humans. The dog cake came out great and the dogs seemed to love it. Lastly, I put out some of my Boba pins for people to take. I didn't do a good job of taking pictures, but good times were had. It was a great day for all.

Happy Birthday Boba!

Today our Boba girl, @nowservingboba, turns 1 year old! We are so happy to have her in our lives and can't wait for what new adventures are ahead of us.

To celebrate I wanted to lift her up with balloons, but sadly learned that I would need at least 800 balloons. I still wanted to take pictures of her with balloons though. So Grant gave in to my crazy idea and we ended up heading to Sacramento in a Fiat with a helium tank and balloons. We ended up only filling 33 balloons and found a cool wall in Sacramento behind BloodSource Midtown to take some fun photos. I started a hashtag, #dahhappywall, so all the fun walls I find can be easy to find. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

We stopped by Gunther's Ice Cream Shop on the way out and it was a great way to end our adventure. We had their fruit freeze with vanilla ice cream in the middle and it was excellent. I hope we can make it back to Gunther's and to explore Sacramento more.

Free Flair: April

I can't believe we're more than halfway through April! I've had a lot of ups and downs lately, and sometimes you need a reminder that "you got this."

The second wallpaper is based on the saying "April showers bring May flowers." I hope you enjoy them!

Hot off the presses: Patches!

I'm so excited to announce that I'm getting into the patch game! I've designed two patches based on my lapel pins, and here they are!

They feature felt, metallic gold thread, and an iron-on backing. You can find more info or purchase them on at my shop. Here's what the backing cards look like. I hope you like them!

And here's what it looks like on my sweater:

I found the best way to iron them on was to:

1.  Place the patch where you want it on a flat surface or ironing board.

2. Take a handkerchief or pillow case and put that on top of the patch.

3. Take the iron, for cotton I set the iron to the highest setting, and press my iron on the patch. I move iron around in slow circles over the patch for about a minute.

4. Flip the sweater inside out and then press the iron on the backside for about 30 seconds, no handkerchief or pillow case needed.

5. Let it settle for a little bit, and voila! You have sweater with a patch on it! Enjoy!

If you're in San Francisco, I'll be at the Urban Air Market in Hayes Valley on May 1st from 11am - 6pm right next to Blue Bottle.

Home: Nightstand Shopping

We decided to play with the layout of our bedroom. Our bedroom is quite small, so it's like solving a jigsaw puzzle. Our most recent layout didn't have room for a nightstand. You can see below how the bed almost hits the door to my closet.

This time we moved the bed to the opposite wall to allow for nightstands. I didn't like putting things on the floor, especially since if I left things on the floor it would be so tempting for Boba to chew on them. I haven't decided if I wanted a nightstand with or without drawers. I think I think I'm leaning toward drawers just so I can store some things nicely, but the nightstands without drawers are really nice looking! Here's a roundup of my favorites from my search. Which one is your favorite?

1. Hairpin Table by Schoolhouse Electric & Supply Co. // 2. Mid-century nightstand by West Elm // 3. Strut Side Table by Blu Dot // 4. Terrace Nightstand by West Elm // 5. Metal Accordion Side Table from Urban Outfitters // 6. Aldama Side Table from The Citizenry

Now that I've found a few that I like, we just need to pick one and pick a bed frame! I'm so excited for our bedroom refresh. I'll give an update once we put it all together.

Home: Bed Frame Shopping

We've been using a West Elm platform bed that I found on Craigslist for sometime now and as much as I loved it. I decided that it was time for a refresh. This time we decided to go with a bed frame with a headboard. I love both looks, so I didn't mind either way.

After spending time looking on Pinterest looking for some bedroom inspiration, I first hit West Elm. I love their mid-century modern collection. I decided to keep looking at what other options were out there though. Below is a roundup of my favorite finds from the internet.

1. Mid-Century Bed Acorn by West Elm // 2. Deco Upholstered Bed by West Elm // 3. Davis Wingback Bed from One Kings Lane  // 4. Linea II bed by Crate and Barrel // 5. Piers Wooden Bed by Dwell Studio // 6. New Standard Queen Bed by Blu Dot

I think that I'm still leaning towards the first one. I just love how clean and simple it looks, but also with a little dash of flair with the tapered sides. I also love the look of an upholstered bed frame, but I'm scared that it'll catch too much dust and I don't do well with that. I think wood frames would be a little bit easier to manage. We'll see! I'll let Grant weigh in too. :) Which one is your favorite?

Free Flair: Love

I have had a slow start to the new year. Finally feeling like I'm getting back into the swing of things. I'm going to try to make some more wallpaper every month. This month's theme in honor of Valentine's Day is love.

Valentine's Day is also sometimes known as Single Awareness Day, so I thought it would be fun to make a "singles" pattern as another wallpaper. Hope you enjoy the wallpapers!

Holiday Urban Air Market

My second craft fair was this past Sunday. It poured in the morning and I was scared no one would show up to the fair, but there was a pretty good turnout though for the weather and location. I was pleasantly surprised. This one was a lot slower than the Etsy fair I went to two weeks ago, but I still had fun. Thanks for those that braved the weather and visited my both. I can't wait to design more things and go to more fairs next year. I just hope I get into them! :) For now, you can visit my store online
